Metabolic and film antitranspirants both reduce drought damage to wheat yield despite having contrasting effects on leaf ABA

چکیده

Film antitranspirants (e.g. di-1-p-menthene) and metabolic exogenous ABA) can be used to protect grain crops from drought, particularly during reproductive development. Here, we compared effects of di-1-p-menthene (1.0 L/ha) ABA (100 µM) on well-watered droughted spring wheat in two glasshouse experiments. Progressive drought was imposed the first experiment, controlled second, both flag leaf emergence. Antitranspirants were applied at emergence, except experiment where additional applications made four further stages up anthesis-complete. Measurements taken for endogenous ABA, stomatal conductance photosynthesis development, yield components maturity. Both progressive elevated less so di-1-p-menthene-treated plants, whereas ABA-treated plants further. Overall, improved under reproductive-stage more drought. Grain negatively associated with concentration that raising multiple high yield. In conclusion, generally reduced despite having contrary ABA.

ABA receptor PYL9 promotes drought resistance and leaf senescence.

Drought stress is an important environmental factor limiting plant productivity. In this study, we screened drought-resistant transgenic plants from 65 promoter-pyrabactin resistance 1-like (PYL) abscisic acid (ABA) receptor gene combinations and discovered that pRD29A::PYL9 transgenic lines showed dramatically increased drought resistance and drought-induced leaf senescence in both Arabidopsis...

Contrasting response of biomass and grain yield to severe drought in Cappelle Desprez and Plainsman V wheat cultivars

We report a case study of natural variations and correlations of some photosynthetic parameters, green biomass and grain yield in Cappelle Desprez and Plainsman V winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars, which are classified as being drought sensitive and tolerant, respectively. We monitored biomass accumulation from secondary leaves in the vegetative phase and grain yield from flag leave...

Effects of External Potassium (K) Supply on Drought Tolerances of Two Contrasting Winter Wheat Cultivars

BACKGROUND Drought is a common stress limiting crops growth and productivities worldwide. Water deficit may increase cellular membrane permeability, resulting in K outflow. Internal K starvation may disorder plant metabolism and limit plant growth. However, it is seldom reported about the effects of external K on drought tolerance of contrasting wheat cultivars. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS...
